F.V.F.D.A. League Match 29.04.10
Milton F.C. 4 - 3 Stirling City F.C.
Stirling made the short trip to Clark Street for a closely fought match with local rivals Milton. City were first to score after 10 minutes when Traynor crept in at the back post and knocked the ball through a melee of players into the net. Milton were quick to respond and scored two goals in quick succession to lead 2 - 1 after half an hours play. Milton were able to use the right wing as their main attack - City missing their normal left back had McGill doing his best to thwart anything coming at him. McLugash was backing him up but this left space in the centre for Milton to exploit. City were 3 - 1 down but not looking out of the game as glimmers of hope were starting to light up the right channels where MacDonald, Anderson and Neumann were finding more space to gain ground. MacArthur was put on for Cattigan to give additional support along the back - MacPherson taking up a more forward midfield position to assist the forwards. City got a goal back when MacArthur got on the end of a corner and headed over the line after a scramble in the box. City were starting to look the stronger side as Milton allowed their game to drop as they seemed to sit on the two goal lead. City taking full advantage when Traynor got his second, again at the back post to pull City level. With only 5 minutes to play Milton found the net once more to lead 4 - 3 and take all three points. A gallant effort from the City squad who rallied together from their weekend defeat to almost draw with the league leaders.

Stirling City F.C. 2 - 1 Milton F.C.
There was a different look to the City squad - a chance for the management team to cast an eye over the new recruits in a competitive game. Nobody in the City team disappointed today from keeper Dormer to forward Somerville. McGowan, Somerville and Cullen connected well with J. Anderson who stood in as captain today, creating problems for the Milton rear guard. Neumann was wide on the right for a short period until he had to fill in at right back while the coaches shuffled things about. City tried long through balls to get behind Milton which was working to a point but it was leaving the City defence exposed but luckily Milton were unable to use this to their advantage. McGill, McPherson, Watt and S. Craig were doing great work holding formation and keeping Milton at bay. Watt made way as Neumann pulled to the back and Mitchell was put on in midfield. The odd occasion when Milton were able to break, Dormer was on top form to keep the score at zero in the first half. Cullen had a few chances to open the scoring early in the second half but his shots were just wide. Marshall had replaced Somerville at the front and with almost his first touch he found himself in open space and lobbed the advancing Milton keeper to give City a 1 - 0 lead. Shortly after, he was replaced as he struggled with fitness. J. Anderson almost gave City a two goal cushion but his free kick dipped behind the bar. I. Craig replaced S. Craig at the back and McGill was replaced by Mountford who was asked to play out of position at left back but he managed this well. J. Anderson took his second free kick of the day and this time he managed to fire the ball into the net. Further substitutions were made as McMahon was sent on and Somerville replaced Cullen. Milton were awarded a penalty kick which usually reliable Sharp took but his aim was off as it scuffed wide of the post. A slack goal from a set piece a few minutes later allowed Milton back into the game. The Milton attacker having a free header as he ran unspotted into the box. Mountford was pushed forward as City looked to challenge the Milton defence but the game ended with a 2 - 1 victory for the home side. Lots of positives for the City coaching team to work on as they prepare for the league campaign which should kick off in the middle of August. Further warm up matches will be organised to test the new look team at the beginning of August.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Jack Anderson.

Stirling City F.C. 4 - 1 Castleview F.C.
Stirling’s preseason is continuing apace as they played at home to Castleview F.C. who will join the F.V.F.D.A. at 17’s age group. City started off tentatively looking to breakthrough the Castleview defence via the long through ball which, to begin with was over hit. Castleview were quick to get into their rhythm and were getting around the back of the City defence but were not able to open the scoring. The City coaches were still trying to get the squad to gel and the unfamiliar look to the squad did not initially make for flowing football as each player discovers a little more about his team mate. Cullen and McGowan were close to opening the scoring in the first 10 minutes but shots were narrowly wide. When City used the width of the pitch and simple short passing, they looked far more comfortable and able to work through the Castleview midfield to create chances in front of goal. Drummond was unlucky his header did not find the target from a corner as City applied pressure to the younger Stirling side. City grew in confidence as the half went on but were leaving themselves exposed at the back as the midfield started to drift forward searching for the opener. City finally broke through when I. Craig crossed from the left, J. Anderson met it in his stride but it hit the post and went spinning along the by-line, J. Anderson was first to react, collected it and set up an advancing Cullen who rifled it into the back of the net. A well worked opener to give City a 1 - 0 lead. City had a few more chances through McGowan but it was not to be his day his best chance after a break down the right by Neumann which was slipped into McGowan but it just went wide of the post. Castleview will have felt they should have been on level terms at half time as the striker found himself with only the City goalkeeper to beat but Dormer was up to the challenge and kept a first half clean sheet. The half time talk had the desired effect as City took a 2 goal lead when McMahon crossed from the right, the keeper parried only as far as I. Craig who set himself up and struck home from just outside the 18 yard box. Castleview then got a goal back after finding space through the centre of the field to bring themselves back into the game. City were now keeping good possession as the ball was passed around the field. This slow build up play was rewarded as City stretched the Castleview midfield and defence and the through ball was picked up by Marshall who slipped it past the advancing keeper to take City 3 - 1 ahead. Campbell, playing his first game in a City shirt had advanced with play and found himself on the score sheet as the ball broke out to him and he rifled it home from 35 yards. The game ended 4 - 1 to City - the coaching staff pleased at the development of the squad in such a short space of time.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Aaron Campbell.
Team: Dormer, McCormack, MacArthur, Turner (Gamble), MacPherson (Campbell) Neumann (McMahon), J. Anderson, Drummond (I. Craig), Mitchell, Cullen (Marshall), McGowan.

Friendly 08.08.09
Stirling City F.C. 3 - 0 Callander Thistle.
City’s preparation for the new season continued with a friendly against Callander Thistle. Callander have continually improved over the seasons and today showed another leap forward despite the scoreline. 10 minutes into the game J. Anderson slotted a ball through for McGowan who had his shot saved by the Thistle keeper. Callander attacked using the centre channel but City’s centre backs MacArthur and McPherson were mopping everything up at the back, turning defence into attack with the aid of Turner, MacDonald and Dormer in goal. City almost went a goal down from a Thistle free kick 25 yards out but it went narrowly over the bar. City broke down the right through Neumann and McGowan who cut the ball back into the path of J. Anderson who struck first time with his left foot but it was inches past the post. Neumann was instrumental in City’s next break as he latched onto a through ball from R. Anderson, took it around the back of the Thistle defence to the byline and picked out MacDonald with the cross but the header was just over the bar. City were slowly turning up the heat and on the half hour City again found themselves attacking when R. Anderson and J. Anderson combined to split the midfield. J. Anderson slotted into the path of McGowan who cut back for an advancing Drummond who took a touch to steady himself, curled the ball round the advancing defence and just inside the far post. A well worked goal to give City the lead. City almost went further ahead after R. Anderson picked up a loose ball in midfield, sent it wide left to Campbell who then found McGowan in space but his first time volley went wide. Callander found a way through to goal but Dormer was up to the shot and gathered well. City doubled their lead 5 minutes before half time as captain R. Anderson picked up the ball in midfield taking it forward 10 yards then struck from 22 yards into the bottom right corner. Drummond came off as Mountford took the field to partner McGowan up front and almost immediately he found himself twisting and turning in the penalty box but Thistle managed to clear the danger. Neumann was replaced by McMahon and Campbell by Craig as City looked to stretch the lead. Callander had not given up yet and were pushing hard keeping the City defence alert. Cullen replaced McGowan up front to partner Mountford, City still experimenting with formation. Callander were awarded a free kick on the edge of the 18 yard box but MacDonald closed down quickly and the resulting shot was sent over the bar. City were able to sustain attacks on the Callander goal but were not able to break through although McMahon hit the bar and Craig’s shot was saved by the keeper. Callander hit back and forced a corner which saw both Dormer and MacArthur clash knees - MacArthur unable to continue. McGill came on to fill the right back position, R. Anderson and J. Anderson were replaced by Gelliatry and Marshall to freshen things up in midfield and Gamble who had replaced Mountford dropped back into midfield. Cullen got himself on the score sheet as his first time shot found the back of the net after great work by Gamble to set him up. The game ended in a 3 - 0 victory for the home side who now face Falkirk Youth at Kings Park next Saturday.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to the team.

Donibristle B.F.C. 5 - 5 Stirling City F.C.
Stirling got off to a terrible start in a great setting at Dalgety Bay Sports Centre in the first competitive game of 2009 - 2010, finding themselves a goal down within 30 seconds as Donibristle scored almost from the kick off. City then slowly came back into the game over the next few minutes and were rewarded with an equaliser 10 minutes in as Ross’s free kick was parried by the keeper and Jack was first to react to head home. City then relaxed and made most of the play for the next 20 minutes, Donibristle being kept back to their own half for prolonged periods. 18 minutes played saw Dylan slot home after great build up play down the left between Gamble, Aoron, Liam and finally Dylan. City had now relaxed into their rhythm and were able to control the pace of the game although Donibristle were still proving able to break through the back four but Colin was up to the challenge and managed to keep the score down. Most of City’s play was coming down the left side but occasionally a switch to Joey on the right was good enough to give the City forwards a chance to extend the lead but they unable to capitalise on the possession. City got a third after 36 minutes which was worked from the back as Colin threw out to Gamble who turned and carried the ball forward using the space opening up in front of him. Aoron made a darting run through which Gamble picked up on. Aoron knocked the ball forward and struck round the advancing defender and keeper and found the inside of the net at the far post. A superb goal but it wasn’t to be the best of the day. 3 minutes before half time City’s dominance then took another leap as Ross hit a screamer from 25 yards and left the keeper grasping for air. City had put their mark on the game and Doni-b would have to recover for the second half. Liam came off for Stewart Mitchell to freshen up the front. After 11 minutes in the second half, City pulled out a seemingly uncatchable lead as Jack stepped up to launch a brilliantly executed free kick into the top corner of the net. 5 - 1 to City who seemed to have the points in the bag. Further changes were made as Josh went on for Dylan and Stig went on for Joey. These changes seemed to be a wake up call for Donibristle who then took control of the second half. The City midfield were charging forward and City were playing further and further up the field when they didn’t have to. Keeping possession for the second half would have been enough to secure a victory on the opening day but unfortunately City crumbled. Goals from Doni-b on 13, 18 and a penalty on 32 brought them within a goal of a draw. Paul was replaced by Steven at the back but it was to no avail as Donibristle pulled back the final goal with 5 minutes left to play after City failed to clear their lines. The referee blew for full time and the game ended honours even. For the travellers, a disappointing second half as City had given the game to their hosts who were quick to snap up the offer. City now face Milton (Forth Valley) at home on Thursday evening.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Dylan.
Team: Dormer, Gamble, McPherson, MacDonald, Turner (Carter), Campbell, Anderson, Anderson, Neumann (McMahon), Cullen (Mitchell), McGowan (Mountford) Sub not used: Watt.

F.V.F.D.A. League 26.08.09
Stirling City F.C. 1 - 2 Milton F.V.
City’s first home game of the season wasn’t one of the best displays as the team looked as though they hadn’t met each other before the kick off. A bright start to the game saw Dylan score a slick opener as City opened Milton up after 10 minutes. The wet conditions weren’t ideal for playing football in but both teams played at a frantic pace creating chances at both ends. Milton levelled from a set piece as City’s keeper claimed the high ball in a challenge with a Milton forward but the contact knocked the ball free and it was headed into the back of the net despite protests from the City players. The rain got heavier and the pace of the game increased with both teams creating chances but neither able to convert. Milton were looking most dangerous from set pieces although City were able to clear their lines on most occasions. Gamble replaced Paul at right back and was working well with Richard although most of City’s play was going down the left channel and became predictable, Milton mopping up by closing out the space. City didn’t relax and continued to press looking to feed the ball through narrow channels instead of opening up play to create chances. The ref brought the first half to a close, the scores level at 1 each. No substitutes for City at half time saw the same 11 continue to search for an opening but it was Milton who were able to penetrate again from a set piece. City left standing as the attacker was given a free header which was driven low into the net. Jack had a chance from a free kick but it was a good height for the keeper to collect. A few long shots were all City managed which Milton were able to deal with. As the light started to fade so did City’s chance of salvaging a point. Milton were able to see out time and secure the three points. City must now prepare for a trip to Stirling Road to face Falkirk Athletic on Saturday.

F.V.F.D.A. League 29.08.09
Falkirk Athletic 1 - 0 Stirling City F.C.
City travelled to Falkirk for their third league game of the new season. The rain stayed away but the wind was playing havoc for both teams. A few players missing for City and an injury to Ross saw a changed starting line up. Steven Carter was in at right back and George Watt was on up front leaving only one substitute available. Falkirk closed City down quickly - pressing forward into the City half which is where they stayed for almost 20 minutes. The ball was being whipped up by the wind and an unusual amount of throw-ins were being taken - this was one of Falkirk’s strong points as they were able to launch the ball into the penalty area. City were not decisive enough in clearing their lines which seemed to cause panic and allowed the home team a psychological advantage. Despite some good play by both teams in the testing conditions the first half ended a goalless draw. George was replaced by Josh at half time giving City some pace up front to test the home defence. Richard and Stig were switching with each other trying to break down each flank but City were unable to create many chances in front of goal. Jack had a chance from a free kick but his first attempt smashed into the wall and his second was collected by the keeper. Falkirk then broke through from midfield and opened the scoring with a shot low to the back post just out of reach of the City keeper. Daniel launched a free kick to the back post but nobody had read the flight of the ball and it was left to go out for a Falkirk throw. James and Gamble also sent some inviting balls into the Falkirk area but nobody was able to convert. The game ended with no further scoring but if it were not for the wind this may have been a more exciting encounter.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Daniel MacDonald.

F.V.F.D.A. League 12.09.09
Stirling City F.C. 4 - 2 Glenrothes Strollers
The kick off was delayed to allow the Fife team time to travel to Stirling in this first meeting between the teams. The Strollers are a big physical side but City were not put off by their size, playing the ball to feet when possible to eliminate the height advantage. Glenrothes opened the scoring after 10 minutes from a corner - the striker breaking free from his marker and getting a free header which he placed inside the unmanned back post. Neumann was playing down the left channel and most of the play was going through him as City looked to break behind their guests. A few tempting crosses were sent in but Cullen and McGowan were unable to finish. City were easing into their stride, opening play up using the width at Kings Park and slowly but surely the chances were coming. Cullen seemed to be struggling with an injury and he was changed for Marshall so the coaching staff could check for any damage. Marshall then opened the scoring for City to draw them level and bring them back into the game. City then started to dominate more in open play keeping Glenrothes on the back foot. City were not able to relax though with the Fifers able to turn defence into attack very quickly. Neumann thought he had scored as he made a strong run in from the left, his shot beating the keeper at full stretch but hitting the far post before being cleared and McGowan was unlucky with a volley which was gathered well by the keeper. It was Marshall who took City into the lead after a cross from wide, Marshall sneaking in front of his marker slotting it past the keeper at the front post. McGowan scored City’s third thanks to Traynor, Mitchell and Anderson who shifted it right to left. Anderson created space for himself skipping past 3 players, his shot hitting the post and McGowan pouncing to slot home his easiest chance of the season. Half time saw City with a 3 - 1 lead and a comfort zone to take into the second half. Both teams were a good match for each other for most of the second half - a defensive error letting the striker through as both City central players left it for each other. 3 - 2 and the Strollers looking hungry for the equaliser. City shook themselves down made a substitution, Traynor exchanged for Mountford as City looked to add fresh legs to the midfield which seemed to inspire the team. Cullen was fit to continue and returned to the field for Marshall. Mountford took a heavy challenge resulting in a free kick wide on the left. The cross found MacDonald at the back post but his header went over the bar. Chances came for City but the inability to convert to a goal was starting to frustrate the team, coaches and home support. Drummond was brought on for Cullen and a late injury to Neumann forced a further change, Marshall retaking the field of play in midfield. A cross from wide found it’s way behind the Strollers defence straight to McGowan who calmly lobbed the advancing keeper to take City to the final whistle 4 - 2 to the good. A great result for the team who must have thought luck was not with them this season so far and a great boost before the Scottish Cup tie next week at Kirkintilloch.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Richard Neumann.

Scottish Cup Round 2 20.09.09
Rosebank United 1 - 3 Stirling City F.C.
City playing in their new blue strip, travelled to Kirkintilloch for the second round of the SYFA Youth Challenge Cup to play against Rosebank United. The pitch was in excellent condition which made for an equally interesting game of football. Each team was knocking the ball around confidently and United will feel hard done by as 8 minutes into the game Dormer cleared a ball out of his goal which United claimed had crossed the line. Anderson and Mitchell were controlling most of the midfield which allowed City to break and Neumann found himself in the box, his shot going over the bar. United were awarded a free kick outside the City box which was headed clear to Anderson who laid it off to Neumann as he broke up the right wing dribbling past two United players. His pace had taken him up the field too quickly as his cross went straight through the penalty area, no City player able to keep pace. 2 minutes before half time Neumann turned awkwardly, twisted his ankle and was taken off. Cullen was his replacement as City juggled the formation around. Marshall broke free and had a shot at goal but was unable to convert. The ref blew for half time. Changes made by City were Marshall off, Mountford on. City started the second half looking sharper and hungrier for a goal. Dormers by kick found the head of Anderson who flicked it into the path Cullen who went round his marker, turned back inside and set himself up for a shot which went just wide of the post. McGowan found the by-line after a Gamble throw in, held the ball along the line and set up an advancing Cullen who rifled the ball home to give City a 1 - 0 lead 8 minutes in. United were still able to come at City but a strong defensive line were keeping most of the danger at arms length. Dormer collected the ball from a United corner, threw out to Josh who dribbled through midfield and sent McGowan clear. McGowan was unselfish and set up Cullen whose shot was saved by the keepers legs. A free kick to United 30 minutes into the second half was cleared by MacDonald but only as far as another United player who struck first time, beating Dormer on his right side. United had brought themselves back into the match and the game looked to be going to extra time. Gamble came off for City and Drummond went on, Mountford moving to the right side of the field. Both teams continued to press for an opener and it was City who broke the deadlock as McGowan scored after a scramble in the goal mouth to give the travelling team the edge with 8 minutes left to play. Cullen then used his experience to wind down the clock taking the ball into the corner. United were now desperate to equalise and threw 3 or 4 bodies further up the field but City’s midfield and defence were well drilled and able to break up attacks. McGowan scored the goal of the game after he was fed an inch perfect pass by Anderson. McGowan pulled the keeper wide and calmly curled it inside the far post. An excellent finish to an entertaining game played in a sporting fashion. City will return to league duty next week with an away game to Callander Thistle at Thornhill.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to the team.

Callander Thistle 0 - 4 Stirling City F.C.
Thornhill was the setting for the first league meeting between Callander and City. A short tight park would make for a fast paced game, the conditions underfoot causing problems as the ball bobbled about. It took a while to get used to the conditions and for City to weight their passes accurately but once they found their range, the passing was a joy to watch for the travelling support. Watt was replaced by Drummond as City gained confidence from the possession they were enjoying but it took 28 minutes before they crafted a goal. Traynor getting his name on the scoresheet to take City into the lead after he gathered the ball out wide and drove into the penalty area. His shot beating the keeper at the back post. The lead was doubled within a minute when Drummond’s corner found an advancing MacArthur who headed home at the near post. City were able to carve Thistle open with quick passing up the park - Gamble, Mitchell and McGowan playing neat touch football taking City up the left wing. Marshall was unlucky in front of goal but the ball didn’t drop kindly for him to get a clean shot. City made no further changes at half time and started the second half as they finished the first. Cullen later came on for Marshall as City looked to freshen the front pairing. MacArthur got his second and City’s third, again from a corner which was sent in by Mitchell - MacArthur heading powerfully home in the centre of goal. McMahon scored City’s final goal as he picked the ball up on the edge of the box, twisted around his marker and fired a low shot home beating the keeper at his near post. Shortly afterwards J. Anderson replaced McMahon and City shuffled players around. Almost immediately Anderson pounced on a loose ball and was unlucky as his shot was deflected over the bar. Callander were still able to attack City but Dormer, Gamble, MacArthur and Traynor were able to shut them down and turn defence into attack. A double substitution then followed - captain R. Anderson was just back after an injury and was replaced by Watt and Marshall retook the field for Mitchell. McGowan was being called offside although some were very tight which was a source of frustration for him. City made their last substitution with Skinner replacing McGowan up front and City changing formation to 3-4-3. City were able to keep their comfortable lead and secured the three points and kept a good clean sheet. A home game against Claremont should follow next week as City look to keep the momentum going.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Scott MacArthur.

Stirling City F.C. 2 - 2 Claremont F.C.
A home game for City as Claremont travelled to Kings Park - the windy conditions forced a short game which for most of the game City controlled. Keeping the ball low City were knocking the ball confidently all over the field, creating chances for the attackers but unfortunately they were unable to convert. City’s first goal came from a free kick floated in by Traynor which went to the back post where both MacDonald and J. Anderson were waiting to pounce. Between the two of them they managed to force the ball home past the keeper with Anderson getting the final touch to give the home team a much deserved lead. An alert Dormer in the City goal was quick to react when a cross from wide was caught by the wind - Dormer got a strong hand to it to palm it over the crossbar. The wintery conditions helped City’s style of play as they continued to play patiently and create openings but no further scoring in the first half left the game finely balanced as the same 11 took to the field for the second period. Claremont had more zip about them in the second half and almost levelled after a few minutes of play but City were able to clear the danger and counter attack. City broke through once more but again a midfielder was the one who scored. J. Anderson feeding Cullen whose shot was parried by the keeper but only as far as Traynor who carried it into the box kept his shot low and rifled it past the keeper. City 2, Claremont 0. City made 2 substitutions Cullen for Skinner and Gamble for Neumann. Claremont then carried some luck with another cross which caught in the wind and sneaked in at the back post to bring themselves back into the game. A more physical game then followed as Claremont tried to get themselves on level terms - MacArthur, Dormer and Neumann picking up injuries during the second half. McMahon came on for Traynor and McGowan was replaced by Marshall late into the game but City were still not able to stretch their lead further. MacArthur was asked to leave the field after receiving treatment and being a man down at the resulting corner cost City dear as the ref allowed play to continue before City could adjust - Claremont drawing level at the back post. Both teams shut each other out for the remainder of the game which finished 2 each. Special mention to the home support who stayed until the end to cheer on the team. City’s next game will again be versus Claremont but the venue will be reversed, giving Claremont home advantage.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Daniel MacDonald.

Stirling City F.C. 3 - 3 Claremont F.C.
City had chances in this game to finish it off in the first half but the post saved the home team on several occasions and City’s front pairing took their time to find the net rather than the outside of the posts! City’s first substitution was on 19 minutes when Skinner was exchanged for Marshall - the former just back from holiday. McGowan, Marshall and then Neumann could have taken City into the lead with Neumann’s effort coming the closest as it hit the back post. A throw in at the half way line by MacDonald was collected by Anderson passed to McMahon who slipped it through for McGowan whose shot was wide of the far post. A slick move which deserved a goal. On the half hour City again came close as keeper Dormer kicked to Neumann who broke up the wing and squared to Marshall but again the finish was wide. Four minutes later McGowan should have taken City into the lead after MacDonald’s flick sent him through on the keeper. McGowan’s lob bounced wide of the post. This was beginning to look like a game of missed chances for City. Just before half time the net finally bulged. MacArthur was deputising on the kicks for Dormer and his clearance to Anderson was put wide to Marshall. From out wide he chipped in to Neumann who controlled it then struck home at the back post. The celebration was short lived as Claremont broke through and some slack marking allowed the striker a clean shot to bring the sides level again. Just when they thought the first half was all over, Neumann’s long throw in to Marshall was deftly headed over the advancing keeper to take City into the break at 2 - 1. The second half was more of the same - six minutes in MacArthur’s powerful header at the back post from McGowan’s free kick missed the target. Another promising attack was broken up by the Claremont defence when he intercepted Anderson’s cross to Marshall. McGowan scored City’s third - a drive from 18 yards which beat the Claremont keeper low to his right. Traynor was replaced with Gamble as Claremont pushed forward looking to get back into the game. Their tactics worked as they scored two goals to bring themselves back to level terms. One of these after a defensive blunder let Claremont in at the far side. Anderson almost snatched a late winner after chasing what seemed a lost cause but his shot fizzed across the face of the goal. Heaver replaced Marshall at the front with 6 minutes to go but the game ended honours even. City now prepare to play Bonnybridge in the Central Cup next Sunday.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Stephen McMahon.

Central Association Cup (Rd 1) 25.10.09
Bonnybridge Y.F.C. 1 - 0 Stirling City F.C.
There was a bleak start to the day when the minibus refused to start so a call for transport at short notice was put out - many thanks to those who answered the call. City made the short trip down the motorway to play Bonnybridge on a wet pitch which held up well in the poor conditions. The home side were quick off the mark as they pinned City into their own half with sustained pressure down the right flank as they bombarded Dormer’s goal area with crosses. The City defence were looking frail to begin with but ‘the Brig’ were unable to find the back of the net. City’s possession was sporadic and in the little time they had the ball it was almost as if it was a grenade as City hurried passes which gave possession back to Bonnybridge. Marshall almost broke through but his shot was wide. A similar story for McGowan and Neumann as City failed to test the keeper. The first half ended a goal less draw. Marshall and Gamble were replaced by Drummond and McMahon as the team took to the field at the start of the second half. City remained under siege for most of the first half had now settled and were attempting to pass the ball around looking for a breakthrough. City were broken from a corner as the attacker was given a clear header from the penalty spot. It was now an uphill struggle for City with the pitch getting heavier and the legs getting weary. MacDonald and Traynor were sending excellent balls in to the box from free kicks but City were unable to grasp the chance to level. Drummond came closest when he found himself in the mud in front of goal and the ball skimming across the face towards him but his shot was parried by the keeper. Bonnybridge were thwarted by Dormer in the City goal who kept his side in the game on a few occasions with reaction saves. A point not missed by the parents at the end. Watt replaced Mitchell late on in midfield and almost immediately sent McGowan through on goal but again the chance went begging. City went down fighting at the end, each player had given their all but it was not enough to force extra time and Bonnybridge progress to the second round. City will now look to stay in the Scottish Cup next weekend as visitors Spartans come to Kings Park.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Colin Dormer.

S.Y.F.A. Challenge Cup (Rd 3) 31.10.09
Stirling City F.C. 2 - 1 Spartans Reds
A home tie for City in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup saw them play host to Edinburgh outfit, Spartans Reds. A 2pm kick off was ideal after the heavy rainfall through the week, giving the Kings Park pitch time to dry off nicely. Spartans were quick to establish themselves from the kick off - City being held within their own half but for a few breaks up the flanks. The visitors gave City no time on the ball, closing down City quickly. 20 minutes into the game the visitors got the opener. Playing through they found themselves a man over - Dormer managed to save the first shot with his legs but the rebound was slotted home by the advancing attacker. The home side rallied together and found themselves with a bit more possession and confidence grew. Spartans were always a danger though and City were not given a moment to relax, MacArthur, MacDonald, McPherson and McClymont under consistent pressure as the Reds onslaught continued. The City midfield of Traynor, McMahon, Anderson and Neumann were almost missing from the game as Spartans flooded through in numbers although when City had control they were a strong influence, Neumann and McMahon swapping sides offering diversity, Anderson and Traynor feeding the City forwards through the channels. McGowan and Skinner up front were having to drop deeper to receive the ball and McGowan was unlucky to be called offside a number of times as he broke round the Reds defence. The first half ended 1 - 0 to Spartans who looked comfortable. With only one goal between them, City had other ideas for the second half. Well controlled passing and slow build up work saw City with more of the ball in the second half but it was a quick clearance from Dormer which caught out the travellers. McGowan chased down the long kick, read the bounce and with a nifty lob, he left the keeper in no-man’s land to bring City back level. The match was beginning to look a little more even now with City finding an extra yard to win the ball although Spartans were always dangerous on the break, City were equal to the challenge. A break out from defence saw MacDonald advancing through the field - he was brought down by the Reds keeper and a penalty awarded. Mitchell stepped up to the mark and smashed the ball past the outstretched keeper who had guessed the correct way but the pace and accuracy were deadly. For the remaining 15 minutes City were all but camped in their defensive third as the visitors looked to equalise. City managed to keep them out with Dormer making two remarkable saves. The first was a free kick from wide on the left which had somehow gone through everybody in the box without a touch - Dormer seeing it late got strong hands to it and tipped it around his far post. The resulting corner saw him rise above everyone to collect the ball cleanly. The second was from point blank range when the ball took a deflection from an outstretched foot and was heading above him as he dived low to save the original shot. Somehow he got his arm up to force the ball over the bar. Two inspirational moments which gave City the edge. The final whistle was blown, the home support were jubilant the team had worked hard to grind out a great result to take them into the next round. A special thanks to Laura & Sue for the hospitality afterwards.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Colin Dormer.

Stirling City F.C. 6 - 2 Callander Thistle
Callander got off to a flyer in this game - City were looking flat footed and lethargic in comparison. The City team looked disjointed and Callander took full advantage going into the lead after 20 minutes. Callander were playing with confidence leaving City chasing the game, Thistle able to break through with relative ease but their finishing was not up to par as chances went a begging. City forced a corner at the far side which Mitchell stepped up to take. His cross was perfect for MacArthur whose powerful header found the back of the net to bring City level. Callander were not fazed and continued to dominate the first half - they were rewarded with a second goal to regain the lead. J. Anderson and McGowan took charge of a City free kick which was well worked, Anderson unfortunate to hit the side netting. At half time Watt made way for Gamble as City looked to give themselves options along the back line. City clawed their way back into the game as they drew level thanks to Mitchell. He needed two chances to slot the ball home, his first flick hitting the post then rebounding back to him, his second shot was more clinical as he left the Thistle keeper grasping at air. Callander almost went back in front from a free kick but Dormer in the City goal was able to parry the ball over the bar. The home side then settled in and began to pass the ball around as they built up play from the back. Neumann was again creating chances for his forwards as he broke down the flanks assisted by MacDonald, J. Anderson and McGowan. City took the lead when McGowan turned provider to Neumann, the winger cutting inside to slip it past the keeper. McClymont took the field for McMahon with Traynor stepping up into midfield. MacArthur was unlucky not to get his second from a corner - his header going wide at the back post. McGowan got a well deserved goal taking City into the lead after being set up with a superbly weighted pass from Mitchell. Stirling were now in their stride and they went 5 - 2 ahead after McGowan held up play on the by line and cut it back to MacDonald who struck home. City had broken their guests in the second half with an impressive display, McGowan finishing them off with his second bursting into the top corner to leave City finishing the game 6 - 2 up. Stirling now return to league duty next week.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Scott MacArthur.

F.V.F.D.A. League 28.11.09
Stirling City F.C. 1 - 2 Sunnyside Thistle
The fog was rolling in over the castle as this encounter kicked off at Kings Park. Thistle were by far the brighter side in the opening period - City heavy on their feet as they failed to deal with aerial balls. City were punished in the 18th minute when Thistle were awarded a goal despite the offside protests. City started to play as a unit and seemed to show promise as the half continued although the performance wasn’t up to the usual standard. They drew level as J. Anderson found the top corner from a sweetly struck free kick. Half time was fast approaching with both teams probing to get the break and edge in front. McClymont was breaking out from defence and finding some success with McGowan but the finishing touch was missing in front of goal. Level at half time, the teams retook the field for the 2nd half with the weather closing in. City were more dominant in the second period but were still unable to convert possession to goals. Traynor was replaced by McMahon and Drummond for Gamble as City looked to inject pace to the midfield and up front, Captain R. Anderson dropping back to his usual role in midfield. Thistle broke down the City defence to take themselves into the lead for the second time in the match as the City team failed to cover at the back. McGowan looked to have broken round his marker and slotted the ball home at the front post but the ref blew for offside. A tight decision which frustrated the unlucky forward. A slick attacking move almost garnished a goal but twice City were denied by handball decisions which went against them. The first when the Thistle player was on the ground he swiped the ball away from the feet of McGowan, the second when the lay back was struck by R. Anderson and it looked as though the same defender handled the ball in the box. Unfortunately the ref didn’t see either and despite protests, play continued. Sunnyside held out to the end but City will have to up their game for the full 90 minutes in league games if they are to match their Scottish Cup success.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Ross Anderson.

Stirling City F.C. 2 - 3 Milton F.C.
The first meeting between these two teams produced a classic encounter for the neutral. Milton were celebrating after 1 minute when they broke through and found the back of the net but the referee called offside - much to the relief of the home side. The game settled into slow build up play as each team searched for the opener. City earned a free kick - the cross finding Mitchell who headed across goal to Drummond who then headed powerfully into the goal. Milton were probing through the City midfield where they were able to break through and create chances in front of goal. City were held in their own box as a series of corners were successfully dealt with initially but clearances were covered by the Milton second line and immediately put back into City’s penalty box. A momentary lapse at one corner allowed a Milton attacker to strike home from 5 yards pulling the visitors level. Both teams continued to play passing football but the half ended honours even at 1 - 1. The second half brought more entertainment as both sides continued to pass the ball about the field. City made changes as Marshall replaced Mitchell at the front. A foul in the box gave Milton the chance to gain the lead from the penalty spot but an excellent save from Dormer in the City goal kept the scores level. City then regained the lead after a kick out by Dormer cleared the Milton defence, bounded over the keeper and found the back of the net as McGowan and the keeper raced to reach it. McGowan slipped in under the keeper and claimed the final touch before it crossed the line. It wasn’t long before City found themselves back under pressure as Milton attempted to find the equaliser dominating the midfield and getting around the back of the altered City back four. MacArthur was unlucky not to pull City ahead again when his header hit the bar from a corner. City were equal to every Milton test but eventually they broke through when a low drive hit the post and rebounded into the net. For the score to remain even would have been a true reflection on the game but Milton didn’t want the draw - they scored again to lead for the first time in the match at 3 - 2. City were relentless in their attempts to even the score once more - Gamble and R. Anderson coming closest but their attack down the flank was broken up by the sheer numbers of Milton defenders. The ref blew for full time - a test of character for the home side and a far improved performance from previous weeks.
Notable mention was given to Dormer but the ‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Daniel MacDonald.

Stirling City F.C. 0 - 2 Glenboig United
A place in the last 16 beckoned the winner of this tie and both teams were determined to make a game of it. City had a few scares early on as United flooded the midfield but Dormer was on top form in goal - boosting the confidence of MacDonald, MacPherson, McClymont and MacArthur in front of him. McClymont and J. Anderson were particularly successful in breaking out from City’s half advancing down the left flank, J. Anderson twisting and turning through the Glenboig midfield but not able to get a shot away as he was forced wider. McGowan and Drummond were City’s front two supported by Mitchell with captain R. Anderson playing inside right, Neumann outside. Neumann did not see much of the ball in the first half although he was causing trouble with his probing runs at the defence whipping balls in across the face of goal. McGowan was not given any benefit of doubt as he was caught offside on a number of occasions but they must have been tight decisions. Although both teams came close to opening the scoring, City were missing the target and Dormer was thwarting the visitors, his handling excellent the first half was brought to a close at 0 - 0. Mitchell was replaced by Traynor in midfield as City started the second half. The quality of passing football from both teams was high as each took turn trying to breakdown the other. United got a break when an attacker was brought down at the edge of the box. Would Dormer be the hero again this week saving another penalty? Unfortunately he was sent the wrong way and United took the lead. R. Anderson had picked up an injury to his ankle and was replaced by Marshall. Almost immediately Marshall found himself in front of goal as the ball came back to him but his shot went agonisingly wide of the near post. Neumann danced in from wide at the byline and took a shot which ricocheted out of the penalty area as City applied more pressure to the United goal. A quick break out saw MacPherson facing his own goal - he tried to lay a pass back to his keeper but it was read by the oncoming attacker who nipped in between them to slot home the winner. City tried valiantly to get themselves back into the game but time beat them and the game along with their cup run ended in the afternoon mist which had rolled in over King’s Park. A heap of positives to take out of the game as City head into the Christmas break. The squad must now focus on league performance when fixtures resume. The team would like to thank Pam, Laura, John and Gavin for the post match refreshments which were served up in the pavilion afterwards.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Colin Dormer.

Glenrothes Strollers 4 - 4 Stirling City F.C.
The league campaign swung back into action after an elongated winter break due to the recent weather conditions. Glenrothes scythed through the City defence early on and took a deserved lead after 10 minutes. City drew level 5 minutes later, Drummond equalising from close range. The pitch was very heavy down the flanks and a few players found themselves slipping whilst trying to change direction or attempting to weave past the opposition which made for a tight game as both teams tried to play down the centre channels. Mitchell and McGowan were working hard down the right but were closed out quickly by the home defence. MacDonald floated a few long balls into the box but they were too near the keeper who caught with ease. City then forged an opening and took the lead after good work by Mitchell to find McGowan with his back to his defender. McGowan reacted to a shout from strike partner Drummond, spun around and threaded the ball through to leave Drummond one on one with the keeper with the defence chasing him down. Drummond calmly curled the ball around the keeper to give City a 2 - 1 advantage. Mitchell picked up a knock shortly afterwards and was replaced by trialist Cattigan. Neumann was switched to his favoured right side, Cattigan took the left. The Strollers got themselves back on level terms from a set piece - City following the ball and taking their eyes off the runners. City were able to get around the back of the Strollers defence once again, McGowan slotting home to take City into a 3 - 2 lead just before half time. Glenrothes hadn’t given the half up though and managed a last gasp goal on the stroke of half time. Although not before some confusion. The ref had initially blown and given an offside decision against Glenrothes but then amended this to award the goal. This was definitely a game of two halves. City who had played most of the football in the first period, found themselves on the back foot as a rejuvenated home side dominated the midfield keeping City on the defensive. City found themselves a goal down again, the Strollers going 4 - 3 up, the guests looking lethargic. Marshall replaced McGowan and Traynor was replaced by triallist McLugash to inject fresh legs at the front and back. Just as the game looked over for City, Drummond fired a shot which beat the keeper and looked as though it was goal bound but it was saved on the line by a covering defender and in the scramble that ensued, Marshall raced the Strollers defender and winning by a nose, prodded the ball into the back of the net. The final whistle was blown with the tie ending 4 - 4. These teams face each other again next week at Kings Park where hopefully the ground conditions will allow the players skills to flourish.

Stirling City F.C. 0 - 2 Milton F.V.
Kings Park was looking a bit worse for wear but held up very well for the duration of the match. The visitors were first on the score sheet from a corner which was missed by a flurry of players and ricocheted off the leg of MacDonald and into his own net. City never really started to play in the game and lapses all over the field allowed Milton to use the space to their territorial advantage although the inability to convert this possession to goals meant City were not out of the game. City’s defensive line were tested from all angles but coped well to keep the score level to one. The second half started where the first left off as both teams probed looking for further goals. Traynor replaced a tired Gamble and Marshall replaced Drummond up front as City looked to pull level in the game. City were more industrious in the second half but were not able to penetrate the Milton defence with good passages of play through midfield. City were trying to play threaded balls through the Milton midfield and defence but more often than not the attack broke down and Milton set off on the counterattack. City found themselves a further goal down from yet another set piece, City marking was poor as Milton gained extra yards. McGowan tried a couple of long range efforts but they were not to trouble the keeper. Marshall found himself in a scoring position but the keeper got down well to save. Neumann was replaced by Cattigan on the wing and MacArthur came off for MacPherson at the back. The second half wound down with no further incidents and Milton cruising. Dormer kept alert in City goal and this showed when a shot was heading for the top corner, he was quick enough to parry it over the bar. City now face Donibristle at home in the cup next week.

Callander Thistle 0 - 3 Stirling City F.C.
City made the short trip to Thornhill for this game - the first game in four weeks for City due to the inclement weather. A slow start by both teams made for a disjointed first period. The pitch held up although it was not in the best of condition for flowing football - the odd bobble here and there catching out players from both teams. City had a few chances through Marshall who didn’t have his shooting boots on first half. There were a few chances for both sides - City flaunting more than Callander but neither were able to score. Gamble was replaced by Cattigan just before the end of the half - Gamble pulling up and not able to continue. City changed shape slightly with the substitution which seemed to allow them more time on the ball in central areas but they were unable to capitalise on the extra territorial play and the first half ended 0 - 0. The half time talk seemed to inspire City and almost from the whistle they found themselves a goal in front. Marshall scoring what must be his easiest goal of the season - finding the target when the ball was parried back to him off the Thistle keeper after sterling work down the wing by McClymont to force the original save Marshall having the easiest of tap-ins to break the deadlock. City gained momentum and dominated the play more but still struggled slightly with positioning leaving wide open spaces behind them which the home team were quick to exploit. City’s defence of MacDonald, MacArthur and McLugash backed by the ever reliant Dormer in goal were equal to each attack and quick to turn Callande on their heels if the chance arose. Marshall made way for MacPherson who quickly made an impact getting City’s second goal again starting through McClymont down the left wing. MacPherson taking the ball around the Thistle defence and striking at the far post. Confidence was more evident throughout the City team resulting in more fluid passing plays. Neumann found himself at the Thistle byline and picked up an injury which saw him taken out of the game. McMahon had picked up an injury in the warm up which left Marshall free to re-enter the field of play. The goal of the day was scored by MacArthur he thundered home his shot from 20 yards out to give City a 3 - 0 cushion. He had waited outside the box hoping to pick up a lose ball which fell kindly for him and he wasted no time blasting it through the advancing Thistle defence. The heavy pitch and time added on by the referee was taking it’s toll on both sets of players, both teams glad to hear the final whistle. City have a free week next week - all other teams are involved in the 1st round of matches in the Stenhousemuir Community Shield.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to James McLugash and John McClymont.

Stirling City F.C. 2 - 1 Glenrothes Strollers
The late arrival of City’s guests meant the home team were more than ready for this match. The Strollers choosing to play against the wind in the first half, knocking long balls over into the space between the City midfield and defence but concentration levels were high in the City team and these attacks were quickly turned around with good effect. City were accurate moving the ball around the park, creating play from wherever the possession was gained. Everyone from Dormer in goal to McClymont, MacPherson, McLugash or MacDonald in defence, through McMahon, Traynor, J. Anderson and Cattigan in central midfield to R. Anderson who was partnering Drummond up front with forwards being absent from duty. 20 minutes into the game and against the run of play Glenrothes broke through and pulled themselves a goal in front after an initial save by Dormer, the attacker was the only one to follow through and he slotted the ball into the net. City were more determined and found a little bit extra to be first to the ball passing the ball around the park into open space for the runners. Drummond picked up an injury early on which forced the long awaited re-introduction of Buick. J. Anderson was fighting hard in the centre of the park and laying off balls for his forwards but they were being caught offside. One such breakthrough must have been very close call for the ref as Buick was being chased down by a defender he had R. Anderson on his right. Anderson thought he had timed his run to perfection offering the man over but when he was given the ball the referee judged him offside. City got back on level terms from a kick out by Dormer which was flicked on by R. Anderson to Traynor who crept in at the back post and fired the ball home past the keeper. An excellent first time hit and a well deserved goal for City. Half time came and went with City making another forced substitution McLugash picking up an ankle knock. MacDonald had flighted some long balls into the Strollers box but City were not able to put the finishing touch to his crosses. MacArthur was put into central defence as a straight swap but further trouble was brewing when McMahon complained of back trouble. McGill was brought on for McMahon in the centre with Cattigan lying behind the midfield to give City cover for the long ball that Glenrothes continued to hit. McClymont was working hard on the left giving City extra width when required. McLugash returned to the field to replace Cattigan at centre-mid but a reshuffle was required when MacArthur could no longer continue due to a leg injury, City low on subs returned Cattigan to the field. City took the lead midway through the half , R. Anderson chasing a long clearance, robbing his marker of the ball and laying it back to Buick who hit it low with the outside of his boot to swerve it into the far corner. Despite City having most of the possessional play for the remainder of the match, Glenrothes had City on their heels and under pressure as they searched for the equaliser. The ref brought the game to a close - City with a good win under their belts. City now go into the F.V.F.D.A. Challenge Cup 1st round against Donibristle B.F.C. at Kings Park next Saturday.
‘Ewen Cooper Cars’ Man of the Match was awarded to Ross Anderson.

Stenhousemuir F.C. Community Cup 27.03.10
Claremont F.C. 1 - 2 Stirling City F.C. (Stenhousemuir Community Cup)
City made the short trip to Tullibody to take on old rivals Claremont in the Stenhousemuir F.C. Community Cup quarter finals. City were sprightly from the kick-off and broke through gaining territorial advantage early on. A series of mistimed challenges kept the referee busy and made for a disjointed game for most of the first half. City managed to settle quicker than the home team and were first to score - a well struck free kick from Drummond was spilled by the keeper, J. Anderson pounced on the loose ball, shifted it to his right and struck home past the flailing keeper and the covering defender. Claremont were getting behind the City defence but they were unable to equalise. At half time City made one change - MacArthur came on for McLugash who was showing effects of a recent ankle injury. Claremont found themselves level soon after from a corner, nobody picking up the late run at the back post. Other City subs made in the second half were McMahon replacing Cattigan on the left wing, Mitchell replaced R. Anderson who had picked up a knock and Traynor coming off for McGowan with J. Anderson dropping back to his usual midfield position. McGowan found himself in on goal with only the keeper to beat and calmly slotted the ball into the net to take City in front once again. Claremont had a late flurry but City closed them out at the back when Drummond came off up front and McLugash came back on in defence. City remained composed in the closing minutes to see off Claremont and progress to the semi-finals where they face Falkirk Athletic.

F.V.F.D.A. League Match 22.04.10
Stirling City F.C. 0 - 0 Claremont F.C.
An under-strength City faced old rivals Claremont for the final time this season at home. City were quick into their stride creating chances but weren’t able to capitalise. Hopefully it wouldn’t come back to haunt them. McLugash was deputising in goal for Dormer and he had a great game, communicating well with his centre backs to ensure any attacks were dealt with. MacArthur and McPherson and Addie were on top form backing him up. Drummond was carrying an injury and had to come off early in the match, Marshall being his replacement. McGowan and was unlucky to be called offside when he was through on the keeper after some nice work in midfield from Anderson and Neumann. McClymont was gaining ground on the left wing working back to cover defensive areas when required. Cattigan sent a through ball to McGowan but once again he was deemed offside - the margins were small and frustration was creeping into McGowan’s game. The second half was more of the same - City dominating possession but unable to slot the ball away. Claremont had City on the back foot and forced a series of corners but City held firm and cleared the danger. Marshall scored but unfortunately the offside whiste had blown and it was disallowed. Anderson was thwarted by the Claremont stand-in keeper from a well struck free kick 20 yards out. It was heading for the top corner but the keeper was able to scramble over and knock it wide for a corner. The ref blew for full time and honours were even. City feel they could have got more from the game but chances were not finished and they now must raise their level for a meeting with Falkirk on Saturday.
