‘ALL STARS’ PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Stirling City F.C. All Stars hosted their first player of the year awards night on Friday 2nd October at the Torbrex Inn. A great turnout saw everybody packed into the upstairs function room to await the announcement of the awards. Firstly chairman Sandy White addressed the room reviewing the achievement on and off the field of the Club. He finished by announcing an agreement with Fubar nightclub who will sponsor the All Stars by funding a new set of strips to be used for next season. The eagerly awaited arrival of Stirling Albion midfielder Liam Corr meant it was time to unveil the awards for 2009 as follows;

Top Goalscorer - John Connelly
Top Trainer - Shaun Wotton
Most Improved Player - Stuart Munro
Players players of the year - Iain McLeod
Coaches player of the year - Garrie Knight

Each player in the squad received an award for their achievements and efforts over the season. After this the players had the chance to enjoy a chat and picture with Liam Corr. Liam was soon in action again modelling a signed 2009/10 Stirling Albion home top to help raise funds for the All Stars. £50 was the winning bid as Garries successful night continued as his family outbid all competitors. Next up was the raffle, their was a huge contribution from both local businesses as well as the committee and players. Over £400 was raised which will cover the costs of the clubs indoor training over the winter months. Stuart the DJ then turned up the tunes and a fair few players strut their stuff on the dancefloor as the drinks and banter flowed on until midnight.

Huge thanks go to Liam Corr, Steven Lieper (Prudential & Stirling Albion), Torbrex Inn, and all sponsors who donated so generously towards the raffle.

FOR I WOULD WALK (DRIVE) 500 MILES

Stirling City All Stars entry into the MENCAP National 5 a side tournament in Leeds on 6th June 2009. Full details of the day are on the All Stars fixture page.

AMATEUR TEAM SWITCH LEAGUES

The amateur team have decided to move to pastures new for season 2009 - 2010. A 5th place in the Stirling & District Amateur league saw them end their 5 year affiliation as they have been accepted into and will play within the Fosters Central Scottish Amateur League beginning season 2009 - 2010. This is seen as a fresh challenge as Barry continues to develop the squad. A new management line up will include central defender Stuart McInnes who has joined as player/ manager although Barry’s voice will still be heard at the side of the pitch. The introduction of some new players should assure the Club continues to flourish for the foreseeable future.

PLAYER AWARDS EVENING

Stirling City Football Club drew to a close season 2008/2009 at the Birds & Bees on Friday night where committee, players, families and friends came together. After a fantastic 3 course meal served by Birds & Bees staff, Chairman Barry Wardrop touched on a few points during the season and toasted the success of the Club lifting the 1st Division League cup. John Clarke was given a send off as he has now decided to head back home to Ireland with his fiancee which the Club wish him every success in the future. The main award of the evening was the Player of the Year and after earlier in the evening collecting the Top Goalscorer award with 36 goals this season, Robert Reid lifted the award. Runner up Jamie Dickson picked up the Players Player award and an accolade in which all his fellow players nominated him for. Graeme Beveridge collected the trainer of the year award for his hard work and effort shown off the park and the final award went to Lee Wilson for Goal of the Season for his strike against California in the League Cup semi final which just pipped Liam McColl's strike against Moodiesburn. Overall, an enjoyable last season in the Stirling & District Amateur League as the Club now look to strengthen and build with a move to the Foster's Central Scottish Amateur League. The club would like to thank those who have given time and effort to make the Club a success away from the playing side with thanks to Gordon McPherson, Sandy Kerr, Alan Reid and Kevin Milne.

Stirling City F.C. officially announced it’s disability section at Forthbank Stadium where invited guests, Andy Gilchrist, Lyn Glenn, Jen Livingstone, team members and the local press were shown a presentation giving details of the Club history and it’s vision for the future by Barry Wardrop and Sandy White. A small buffet followed where guests mingled with Club members discussing everything football. Our thanks are extended to our guests for attending and to Forthbank for the use of the facility. Further details will be released in the Stirling Observer.

Stirling City F.C disability section, nicknamed ‘All Stars’ was established in 2008 and is a football club for adults with disabilities.

The project started in the summer of 2007 when Sandy White noticed a lack of opportunities for adults with disabilities to participate in recreational football. After a recruitment drive a couple of lads started having a kick about up at the kings park in Stirling. with support from Lynne Glen (sportcentral) a team was entered into the Scottish Disability Sport 7-a-side tournament in Grangemouth Oct 2007 under the name of the Kings Park Brigade. They performed well and wanted to continue to train and compete. Over the winter financial support from Forth Valley Disability Sport funded training at the scout hall in Stirling. Slowly the numbers grew and enough interest was there to form a club.

Sandy was advised to speak with members of Stirling City F.C regarding an affiliation as they were looking to expand and it would help the club get up and running which could only be good for the Club.

We train on Monday nights from 6pm - 7.30pm in Stirling.

New Players and Coaches always welcome!
